Stonevia™ brings the visual character of architectural stone, concrete and mineral-inspired surfaces into a versatile sheet-based format.
This guide answers the questions we are most often asked by homeowners, designers, architects, developers and installers.
01.01
What is Stonevia™?
Stonevia™ is a collection of lightweight architectural surface materials designed to recreate the character, texture and depth associated with stone, concrete and other mineral finishes in a versatile sheet format.
The system allows designers and homeowners to introduce substantial-looking architectural surfaces without approaching the project in the same way as conventional heavy stone slabs.
01.02
Is Stonevia™ natural stone?
Stonevia™ should not be confused with a thin slice of quarried natural stone.
Selected Stonevia™ ranges are engineered mineral-based architectural surfaces designed to reproduce natural stone and related textures using a controlled manufacturing process.
This approach creates greater freedom in texture, format and application while retaining the tactile, mineral character sought in architectural interiors.
01.03
Why is the material flexible?
The engineered composition and manufacturing process allow selected Stonevia™ surfaces to retain a degree of flexibility that would not normally be associated with conventional stone.
Flexibility varies according to the collection, texture, thickness and construction of the particular product. It should therefore be treated as an architectural finishing material rather than folded or sharply creased.
01.04
What size are Stonevia™ sheets?
A core Stonevia™ sheet format is 1200 × 600 mm.
Other formats may be available depending on the collection or project. Always refer to the individual product specification before ordering.
01.05
How thick is Stonevia™?
Thickness varies between collections and surface profiles. Selected Stonevia™ products are available around 3.0 mm, with other profiles including approximately 10.0 mm.
Highly textured surfaces can differ because the relief of the face forms part of the design. Use the relevant Stonevia™ Technical Data Sheet when thickness is critical to detailing.
01.06
Will every sheet look exactly the same?
Surface appearance can vary by collection, colour and production batch. Variation is also an important part of creating a convincing architectural finish rather than a flat, repetitive appearance.
For larger installations we recommend planning the sheet layout before fixing and viewing adjacent sheets together under the project's actual lighting.
02.01
How is Stonevia™ installed?
The installation method depends on the product, substrate and environment.
For many architectural wall applications, the surface is prepared, the installation layout is established, the specified adhesive or fixing system is applied, and each sheet is positioned and finished in sequence.
Wet areas, exterior locations and specialist substrates require the installation method specified for that application.
02.02
Can Stonevia™ be cut on site?
Yes. One of the practical advantages of a thin architectural surface system is the ability to make project-specific cuts during installation.
The appropriate cutting method depends on the exact product and texture. Installers should follow the relevant Stonevia™ installation guidance and use suitable PPE and tools.
02.03
What substrates can it be installed onto?
Suitability depends on the selected Stonevia™ product, installation system and condition of the substrate.
The substrate must be structurally sound, appropriately prepared and suitable for the specified adhesive or fixing method. Existing finishes should not simply be assumed suitable without assessment.
For commercial, wet-area or unusual substrates, contact Stonevia™ before installation.
02.04
Can Stonevia™ go around curves?
Selected flexible surface products can accommodate curved architectural forms, making them useful for features such as columns and gently curved walls.
The achievable radius depends on the individual product, thickness, surface relief and installation conditions. Tight-radius applications should be assessed before ordering.
02.05
Do I need a specialist installer?
Straightforward installations may be achievable by experienced competent tradespeople, but the quality of substrate preparation, layout, cutting and finishing has a major effect on the completed appearance.
For premium residential work, complex detailing, commercial projects and wet areas, Stonevia™ recommends appropriately experienced installation.
02.06
What about corners, edges and junctions?
Corners and terminations should be considered as part of the design before installation begins.
Depending on the product and project, edges may be detailed using carefully formed material, mitred junctions, appropriate trims or project-specific finishing details.
03.01
Can Stonevia™ be used on media walls?
Yes. Media walls are one of the key applications for Stonevia™ because the material can introduce strong texture and depth across large feature surfaces.
The wall construction, fireplace or heat source, television recesses, ventilation requirements and substrate should all be considered before installation.
03.02
Can Stonevia™ be used in bathrooms and wet areas?
Selected products can be specified for bathroom and wet-area applications when the correct installation system is used.
Water-exposed areas require an appropriate wet-installation approach. The decorative surface does not replace the requirement for a correctly designed waterproof substrate or tanking system where one is required.
Confirm the exact Stonevia™ product and wet-area installation specification before fixing material inside a shower or other directly water-exposed zone.
03.03
Can it be used in kitchens?
Stonevia™ can create feature walls and architectural surfaces in kitchens and adjoining dining spaces, subject to the suitability of the selected product for the precise location.
Areas exposed to significant heat, water, grease or repeated cleaning should be reviewed individually before specification.
03.04
Is Stonevia™ suitable for hotels and restaurants?
Architectural surface systems of this type are used across hospitality environments including hotel interiors, reception spaces, restaurants, bars, corridors and feature walls.
PHOMI publishes reference applications including hotels, restaurants, bars, commercial interiors and public environments for relevant eCovering families.
Commercial specification should always be based on the exact Stonevia™ product, project location and required technical performance.
03.05
Can Stonevia™ be used in offices and reception areas?
Yes, subject to product selection and project requirements. Stonevia™ is particularly suited to feature walls, reception backdrops, concierge spaces, meeting rooms and other design-led interior surfaces.
03.06
Can Stonevia™ be installed outside?
Exterior suitability is product- and system-specific. PHOMI publishes both wet-installation and dry-hanging systems for exterior eCovering applications, but this should not be interpreted as every Stonevia™ finish being automatically suitable for every exterior project.
Contact Stonevia™ with the project location, substrate, elevation and selected finish so the correct specification can be confirmed.
04.01
Is Stonevia™ fire rated?
Fire performance must be confirmed against the specific product and applicable supporting test documentation.
The underlying manufacturer publishes Class A / A1 fire-performance information for relevant eCovering product families. Stonevia™ does not recommend assuming that a rating applies universally to every finish, substrate, adhesive or completed wall build-up.
For regulated or commercial projects, request the relevant Stonevia™ technical documentation before specification.
04.02
Is the material UV resistant?
PHOMI describes the inorganic-organic hybrid eCovering structure as providing strong UV resistance.
Exterior performance nevertheless depends on the individual product, colour, exposure, installation system and environment. Confirm exterior suitability for the selected Stonevia™ surface before specifying it.
04.03
Are Technical Data Sheets available?
Yes. Stonevia™ provides technical information for relevant surface families and project applications.

04.04
What does certification apply to?
Certifications, test reports and declarations should always be read against the product, system and scope stated in the relevant document.
A certification applying to one material family or test configuration should not automatically be assumed to cover every Stonevia™ finish or complete installed wall assembly.

04.05
Is Stonevia™ a low-impact alternative to conventional stone?
The technology behind relevant eCovering products is designed around lightweight material use and lower-temperature manufacturing rather than conventional quarrying and high-temperature processing.
PHOMI also publishes independently verified carbon-footprint information for aspects of its eCovering platform.
Where environmental performance forms part of a formal specification, use the applicable current environmental or carbon documentation rather than relying on a general marketing statement.
05.01
How do I calculate how much Stonevia™ I need?
Start by calculating the total width × height of each surface in metres and combine the areas.
A standard 1200 × 600 mm Stonevia™ sheet covers 0.72 m² before allowance for cutting and waste.
Always include a sensible project-specific allowance for cuts, layout and future requirements.
05.02
Should I order extra material?
Yes. The appropriate allowance depends on wall shape, corners, openings, pattern direction and complexity.
Ordering all material for an installation together can also help with project continuity and batch management.
05.03
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. Physical samples are strongly recommended where colour, texture and lighting are important to the final design.
Screens can never reproduce the tactile relief, reflectivity or exact colour response of an architectural surface perfectly.
05.04
Can I order a Stonevia™ brochure?
Yes. Our complimentary Stonevia™ architectural brochure introduces the collections, applications and project possibilities in print.
